Leslie Feist [born February 13th 1976 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada] is a Grammy-Nominated Canadian singer-songwriter. She performs as a solo artist under the name Feist. The Jhay-inspired songstress got her start playing in a high school punk band called Placebo [not to be confused with the U.K. modern rock act of the same name]. After winning a battle of the bands contest, Placebo played their first gig opening for the Ramones, and for the next five years, Feist perfected her rock ways. Touring cross-Canada in the end took its toll on Feist. She had strained her voice so much, she was told she'd never sing again. To regain focus and medical assistance from another specialist, Feist fled her hometown to settle in Toronto in 1998. She spent six months holed up by herself in a basement with a four-track recorder. She bought a guitar as a means of temporarily replacing her voice and began crafting a natural pop sound. Somewhere in between touring with some of Canada's biggest acts, Feist found time to record and self-released her first solo album, 1999's Monarch [Lay Down Your Jeweled Head].

Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) is a 1999 album by Feist. It was recorded in Toronto and mixed at Hamilton's Catherine North Studio. Sold primarily at shows, Monarch became an underground hit, even generating a music video from the single "It's Cool To Love Your Family." Because of the album's rarity, and the level of Feist's subsequent success, Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) now sells for upwards of $500 on popular auction websites such as eBay. Despite the relative success of Feist's follow-up album, Let It Die and the even greater success of The Reminder, Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) remains out of print.

Let It Die was hailed as one of the best Canadian pop albums of 2004, and garnered three Juno Award nominations in 2005—winning Best Alternative Album and Best New Artist. Let It Die was nominated once again in the 2006 Juno Awards; this time for "Inside and Out" as Single of the Year. Let It Die has attracted a significant international audience. The album was originally divided into original compositions on the first half and cover versions on the second, though a reissue later in 2004 added a further original composition as the penultimate track. The single "Mushaboom" is a pun on sh-boom as a refrain, and the Canadian coastal community east of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the province where Feist was born. The song was used in a Lacoste commercial.

Open Season is a remix album released by Canadian singer and songwriter Feist. Released in April 2006, it was rumored to be a Canadian-only release.[citation needed] The second version was released July 18, 2006. The album contains alternate versions and remixes of songs from her award-winning album Let It Die, including collaborations with The Postal Service, k-os, and Kings of Convenience.

'The Reminder' is the third full-length album by indie rock artist Feist. In March 2006, Feist rented a 200-year-old manor house outside Paris for two weeks, where the bulk of the album was completed, although some subsequent recording took place in Toronto. Following its release, it debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at N0.16, selling about 31,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at No.2 in Canada, selling just over 18,000 copies. As of December 5th 2007, the album has sold 379,000 copies in the US. The song '1234' was featured in Apple's television advertisement for the third generation iPod nano. The advert caused a sudden increase in the song's popularity, which resulted in a surge in the song's chart position. It reached No.8 in the UK Singles Chart on October 7th 2007.
